Portfolio originates in the UK defence research lineage that became QinetiQ in 2001
MIAMI and PARIS – September 17, 2026 — Sauvegarder Investment Management, Inc. (“SIM IP”), a global intellectual capital firm that actively acquires, structures and creates liquidity for intellectual capital assets, deploying its own capital, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a portfolio of QinetiQ patents in cross-domain security — the technology governing how data moves between networks of differing trust.
The portfolio comprises eight patent families, with granted patents in the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia. The inventions date from QinetiQ’s cross-domain research of the 2000s and early 2010s, carried out in the research lineage the UK Ministry of Defence established as the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA).
Every organization connected to the outside world faces the same question, many times a day: a file arrives from a network it does not control, and something has to decide whether to let it in. It may be routine. It may be the first move in an intrusion. Often the decision has to be made about a file no one has seen before.
QinetiQ’s researchers worked that problem for networks on which getting the decision wrong is a national-security event. It now sits in front of critical infrastructure everywhere: banks, hospitals, utilities and the security vendors that serve them.
“QinetiQ’s team did generational work protecting the networks nations rely on — and as attacks grow more sophisticated, that technology only matters more,” said Parshad K. Brahmbhatt, Vice President at SIM IP. “Our mission now is stewardship of these inventions and the technological accomplishments they represent. I’m honored to be working with Q Branch on this.”
“This is exactly the kind of asset SIM IP looks for: real invention, made by a serious institution, in a field that matters more every year,” said Erich Spangenberg, Co-Founder and CEO of SIM IP. “We will be running an open licensing program around these assets and have made it straightforward to begin that conversation.
