MIAMI and PARIS, September 22, 2026 — Sauvegarder Investment Management (“SIM IP”), a global intellectual capital firm that deploys its own capital to acquire, structure, and monetize intellectual property assets, today announced that Coalton Bennett has joined the firm as Vice President.
Bennett has over 14 years of intellectual property experience. At MIT Lincoln Laboratory, he developed and evaluated patent portfolios for telecommunications and networking technologies, including patents on DWDM access networks for Remote PHY architectures — technology that carries multiple optical signals over fiber to enable high-capacity communications.
Prior to working in intellectual property, Bennett was a Member of the Technical Staff at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University, where his research focused on signal processing, wireless communications, and optical networking.
At SIM IP, Bennett will help expand the firm’s telecommunications-focused portfolio acquisition, development, and licensing programs. His work will concentrate on identifying and developing high-value intellectual property in LTE, 5G, and 6G technologies, as well as related wireless, optical, and network infrastructure systems. He will also support technical analysis, patent landscape evaluation, claim strategy, and the identification of commercially relevant opportunities across evolving communications standards and implementations.
“Coalton’s more than 14 years of intellectual property experience, combined with his technical background in signal processing, wireless communications, and optical networking, adds valuable depth to SIM IP,” said Erich Spangenberg, CEO and Co-Founder of SIM IP. “His experience developing patent portfolios in sophisticated telecommunications environments—including his work at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Cornell University—will strengthen our ability to identify, develop, and monetize intellectual property across the communications sector. We are pleased to welcome him to the team.”
“I am excited to join SIM IP and contribute to its approach to intellectual capital,” said Bennett. “Telecommunications technologies are evolving rapidly, from LTE and 5G deployments to the emerging capabilities of 6G networks. I look forward to working with the SIM IP team to identify important innovations, develop high-quality patent portfolios, and create value from intellectual property covering the technologies shaping the future of connectivity.”
